Connecting communities through wellness.
What does wellness mean to you?
Our goal is to educate young people and adults about the comprehensive meaning of wellness. By definition, wellness is “the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.” Typically, we associated the idea of wellness with the state of physical well-being. While physical health is a definite measure of one’s well-being, there are several other factors which influence our ability to live well. These holistic factors are called the eight dimensions of wellness and it is important to understand the unique experiences we face as individuals, and communities, with respect to each dimension.
1) Physical Dimension
Investing into the health of your body through physical movement, eating nutritious foods, and resting well.
2) Intellectual Dimension
Challenging yourself to think critically and creatively in order to learn new information or solve complex issues.
Staying curious about the world around you, and having meaningful conversations with others about your discoveries.
3) Emotional Dimension
Being able to understand your emotions, where they originate from, and how to regulate them.
Engaging with others to learn about and appreciate their feelings.
Exploring ways to build a sense of contentment in your life.
4) Social Dimension
Prioritizing time and effort towards building healthy relationships with friends, partners, etc.
Getting involved in your community by enjoying (or creating!) third spaces with peers.
5) Spiritual Dimension
Spending time doing activities which help you confidently identify your life’s purpose, your values, and your belief system.
6) Vocational Dimension
Developing your knowledge, skills and talents in order to build a career which feels meaningful and rewarding to you.
7) Financial Dimension
Learning your unique financial needs so that you can make informed decisions about your short-term and long-term goals.
Setting realistic goals for saving, investing, and budgeting so that you can manage your resources within your means.
8) Environmental Dimension
Being concerned with the state of the built environments around you, specifically with how they affect your health.
Understanding your daily habits and activities have an impact on our physical environment, and being conscious about practical ways to improve your “environmental footprint.”
We hope that as people invest into their own well-being, they will become confident about investing in and advocating for the well-being of their peers and community.
